FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
QUESTIONS – SAFETY:
What safety measures have you implemented to protect your employees and guests from COVID19?
The safety of our employees and guests are our number one priority. We were the first grocery retailer in Manhattan, KS to require both employees and guests to wear face masks and have their hands sanitized before entering the store.
To promote social distancing, there is a limit of 8 guests at a time. A plexiglass shield has been installed to create a safety barrier between the customer and cashier when checking out. Hand sanitizer is also available near the checkout counter.
Baskets and carts are disinfected after every use. Our cleaning and disinfecting guidelines align with what is published by the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC): https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/community/clean-disinfect/index.html.

Kansas is reopened now. Why do you still require everyone who walks in the store to wear a face mask?
Trust us - wearing a face mask is uncomfortable; our staff wears one for hours at a time. It has, however, effectively decreased the likelihood of transmitting COVID19. Here is a visual from the University of Kansas Health System that shows its effectiveness: https://www.facebook.com/kuhospital/photos/pb.208729133103.-2207520000../10158534009663104/?type=3&theater.
Can the virus be transmitted through food?
Per the CDC website (https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/faq.html):
"Coronaviruses are generally thought to be spread from person to person through respiratory droplets. Currently, there is no evidence to support transmission of COVID-19 associated with food. Before preparing or eating food it is important to always wash your hands with soap and water for at least 20 seconds for general food safety. Throughout the day use a tissue to cover your coughing or sneezing, and wash your hands after blowing your nose, coughing or sneezing, or going to the bathroom.
It may be possible that a person can get COVID-19 by touching a surface or object, like a packaging container, that has the virus on it and then touching their own mouth, nose, or possibly their eyes, but this is not thought to be the main way the virus spreads.
In general, because of poor survivability of these coronaviruses on surfaces, there is likely very low risk of spread from food products or packaging."
